A few things to know
What StudiOn needs, what it sends, and what happens when you join the beta list.
Does StudiOn need an internet connection?
No. Jimmy runs on a model built into the app, so chat works offline and your conversations and files stay on your Mac. The app connects to the internet for two things only: checking for updates, which you can turn off in Settings, and sending feedback when you press Send. The website needs an internet connection to save your beta request.
How does StudiOn update, and how are updates kept safe?
StudiOn updates itself in the app using Sparkle, the standard updater for Mac apps distributed outside the App Store. An update has to pass several independent checks before it installs:
- Apple’s checks. Every release is signed with NeutronTech’s Developer ID and notarized by Apple. macOS won’t open an app that isn’t, or one that has been altered since it was signed.
- Our own signature. Every update is also signed with a Sparkle key that is kept offline, never on a build Mac or in the cloud. The app refuses any download that doesn’t carry that signature, even one served from our own address.
- Locked-down hosting. Updates are served from Cloudflare R2, and the accounts that can publish them are protected with hardware security keys (YubiKey) for two-factor sign-in.
You can turn off update checks in Settings.
What Mac do I need?
A Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 26 or later. Beta availability and requirements will be shared with your invitation.
Does it need Apple Intelligence?
No. StudiOn brings its own built-in model, so it works with Apple Intelligence turned off.
What files can it read?
PDF (scanned pages included, read with on-device text recognition), Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), CSV, TSV, RTF, Markdown, JSON and plain text. Long documents are read start to finish. If part of a file can’t be read, Jimmy tells you. Your original file is kept in Library, unchanged.
How much can Jimmy hold at once?
There’s no fixed limit. StudiOn sizes Jimmy’s working memory from the model and from your Mac’s memory, so a Mac with more memory holds more at once. Long conversations are condensed as they grow. Your full conversation stays saved, and Jimmy carries your corrections and open tasks forward.
What’s coming?
Next: recordings and video transcribed on your Mac and cited to the moment, more models, text in photos and images, web search only when you ask, and questions across all your sources. Later: call and meeting recording, document editing, talking with Jimmy out loud, workflows and more. See what’s coming. These are plans, not features in the beta today.
Why is he called Jimmy?
Every lab needs a genius.
What does sending feedback share?
Only what you write and choose in Help → Send Feedback: the kind of feedback, your message, an email address if you want a reply, and a file if you attach one. It also sends the app version and build and a random install code that is not linked to you, and, unless you turn off “Include build and Mac details”, the app and engine source revisions, macOS version and Mac model. The window shows exactly what will be sent. Nothing from your conversations or files is included unless you type or attach it. Cloudflare stores feedback for NeutronTech. Each message, and any file attached to it, is deleted automatically one year after it arrives.
Is joining the list an app account?
No. Your email is for beta communication. StudiOn itself does not require an account.
What happens after I sign up?
Your request is saved to our beta list. When access is available, we’ll send the details by email. A request does not guarantee an invitation or a release date.
How is my signup information used?
We save your first name, email, signup date, and industry if you provide it to manage beta access. Cloudflare hosts this website and signup storage. Resend delivers beta emails when sent. To ask us to remove your signup, email support@neutrontech.ai.
